Since I first began my career, my mantra has been "If I am doing my job properly I will be out of a job in a couple of years." Inevitably things change and this doesn't come to pass (so I leave ;-), but if you understand this to mean 'helping new technologies become integrated into the regular working/learning lives of people' then I've successfully put myself out of a job at least 3 times!
